Abstract Sets out plan for implementation of SCAR research program on Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic (EBA) with notes on links with other international programs, timeline of conferences and events, methodology, relationship with 2007-2008 International Polar Year, and program management and governance. Includes outlines of work under headings: evolutionary history of Antarctic organisms; evolutionary adaptation to Antarctic environment; patterns of gene flow within, into and out of Antarctic, and consequences for population dynamics with isolation as driving force; patterns and diversity of organisms, ecosystems and habitats in Antarctic and controlling processes; impact of past, current and predicted future environmental change on biodiversity, and consequences for Antarctic marine, terrestrial and limnetic ecosystem function.
