Abstract In the higher sectors of the Alps Range a quick transition from glacial to paraglacial system is nowadays occurring. Forni Glacier in the Upper Valtellina is a clear example of this kind of evolution. The active ice cored moraine of the glacier is turning into a dead ice one, and the steps of this transition have been documented by means of field measurements. The collapse events are still occurring, and survey measurements defined its erosion rate (approximately 0.3 m per year). Debris and mud flows interrupted the Sentiero Glaciologico del Centenario (Glaciological Path of the Centenary) realized in 1995 to let tourists and researchers accessing and visiting glacial and geomorphologic evidences of the area
