Abstract This issue of Reports on Polar and Marine Research presents the proceeding of the 23rd Polar Libraries Colloquy held in Bremerhaven in June 2010. The theme for the colloquy was "Cool libraries in a melting world". This paper outlines progress in the International Polar Year Publications Database (IPTDP). The authors identify two problems the IPYDP is encountering: lack of awareness by IPY researcher that they should report their publications and difficulty in securing funding for comprehensive coverage of publications from the first three IPYs.
