Abstract Cruise report of 2008/2009 joint US/Swedish Oden Southern Ocean expedition to Amundsen Sea, aimed at improving knowledge of fundamental processes governing distribution and production of greenhouse gases (halocarbons and CO2); studying dynamics and evolution of epidemic diseases in seals; and investigating influence of glacier melt water on water mass structure in Amundsen Sea. Includes notes on biogeochemical cycle of organo-halogens; inorganic carbon transformation; processes driving CO2 flux in seawater-ice-air and brine; black carbon (soot) and persistent organic pollutants; non- redfieldian P cycling in Southern Ocean; biophysical variability in Southern Ocean; and controls on climate active gases by Amundsen Sea ice biota
