Abstract This issue of Reports on Polar and Marine Research presents the proceeding of the 23rd Polar Libraries Colloquy held in Bremerhaven in June 2010. The theme for the colloquy was "Cool libraries in a melting world". This paper gives a brief history of the National Institute of Polar Research and its publications. (mte)
