Abstract Uses recently compiled digital maps of coastline and exposed rock across Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) to quantify distribution and extent of potential breeding sites for Pygoscelis adeliae. Review of literature indicates that incomplete search effort is possible source of substantial negative bias in estimates of breeding abundance derived from published count data.
