Abstract Presents new methods for collection and development of data to adjust counts of Adelie penguins made at any time in breeding season to estimate of breeding population. Development of availability adjustment factors involves collection of time-series counts of population objects (numbers of adults, nests or chicks) throughout breeding season and standardization of time series to reference point one week after peak in egg laying. Method is illustrated using data collected at Bechervaise Island, Mac. Robertson Land, in 2007-08.
